Pwede (pu·wede) is a Tagalog (A language widely spoken in the Philippines) term which means OKAY or possible. In this article, we will use the word Pwede and other Tagalog terms to express our level of appreciation for activities, food and places in San Juan, La Union.

We were really happy with Sandbar so we decided to have breakfast there as well. We had Pancit Canton with Egg for just P50 each. They also added some veggies! A restaurant which offers a good meal at an affordable price, that is really hard to find. Sandbar, thank you for existing!

After breakfast, we decided to go surfing or at least I did. According to forecasts, there won’t be waves bigger than 1-2 feet. KD, found no challenge in riding those waves so she decided to swim instead.

Ramo Surfing Services

KD and I used their services a few times before and we were always happy with them. The owner’s name is Omar. His cousin, Luz the attendant), is very friendly and very hands-on with their customers.

They have a cottage where you can leave your belongings while you are surfing. If surfing is not your thing, you can hang out at the cottage while you wait for your friends who decided to leave you behind.

This was a picture from one of KD’s previous visits.

Luz, this photo does not do you justice! Trust me, she is a lot friendlier than she looks on this photo. Next to her is Omar’s mom, Amelia, who is very nice as well.

Thank you Lakbay KD for this awesome photo of me!

After getting the board and instructions, the instructor and I went into the water. For beginners like myself, 1-2 feet is good for learning how to balance on the surfboard. After being able to stand on the board several times, I got bored and found myself asking the instructor, “Are we done yet? Are we done yet?”

Here are some of the services they offer:

Surfboard rent with instructor- P400 (1 hour)

Surfboard rent without instructor - P200 (1 hour)

Paddle board rent- P200 (1 hour)

Kaizen Izakaya & Japanese Restaurant

We were looking for a place to eat and at the time, I felt like eating tempura. The Logo of Kaizen Izakaya & Japanese Restaurant was very inviting so I said, “We should give it a try”.

The place was a bit small but the ambiance was relaxing and the way the sunlight penetrated the glass door and windows induced serenity.

KD ordered Ebi Tempura for P210. Talk about redundancy but I was craving. Without hesitation, I ordered Mixed Tempura for P280. To add a little variety, we ordered Salmon Sashimi for P270. We were not disappointed. The food tasted great! Definitely, a place to come back to. When we come back next time, I’ll order other food so I can add more information to this article.

Fun Activities at the Beach

BBQ and the beach, a sizzling combination! It gives us a great sense of fulfillment when we cook our own BBQ and more reason to drink beer and chill.

Ahead of time, we asked Luz (from Ramo Surfing), if they had a griller that we can borrow. She said, yes. She added that we can just use one of the cottages close by. You see how reliable she is?

After lunch, we took a short ride to one of the Monterey shops nearby to buy some pork skewers and hotdogs. We also got some charcoal and matches from the market next to it.

We had some difficulty with getting the charcoal to smolder. It probably got damp because of the high humidity at the time. After 30 minutes or so, we finally had fire!

The cottage that we used belonged to a different owner. Luz said that we can just give him some cash. We decided to give him some BBQ and cash. He refused to take the cash and said that the BBQ was more than enough. The people at San Juan are really nice. We had a great time cooking and chilling!

Later that night, KD took out her guitar and we sang a few songs till past midnight.

This is one of the good things about Sebay, they are not strict about noise (except if you are staying in a room next to someone who minds it).
